Too early for pumpkins?…..Nahhhh.

September 26, 2007 · 4 Comments

So tonight Leanne and I had date night and we decided to get some of those fake pumpkins and carve them. We put the baby to sleep andpumpkins1.jpg began the awesomeness that is our carving skills. Really, Leanne was awesome…mine on the other hand…let’s just say I am glad for super glue. (hers is the house) But in my defense those stupid pumpkin carvers are useless.

Anyway some may say it is too early for pumpkins and I say…pssssshhhhhhh. Whatever. I encourage you all out there in the blogosphere to gather your loved ones and friends and do some serious carving. Why wait until the end of October? In pumpkins2.jpgfact, I think I am going to host a little pumpkin carving contest. After you are done with your mad skills send me a pic… and we will see who the winner is.

Happy Carving…

On your mark…get set…TiVO!

September 24, 2007 · 3 Comments

Well, it’s that time of year again. It’s the time of year that some people love and some people despise…while a small few couldn’t care less. “What time?” you ask…Fall TV Season.

That’s right. It’s that time of year when every channel tries to capture your attention with some offbeat comedy, intriguing mythology, intense drama, or sadly, the thing that just won’t die…rehashed “reality”. Most people I know don’t actually have time to watch that much television, but since the creation of TiVO and DVR we all manage to find a way to saturate our brains with fairly inane and meaningless entertainment that really does nothing for us except give us something pointless to discuss around a water cooler.

That being said…I love TV!

Now since my favorite show (Lost) is not on until the Spring, I have an empty slot…and truthfully I am having a hard time filling it. For the first time in a long time there are several shows that appeal to me…and no, Dancing With the Stars is not one of them (sorry Rick). So here is my top 5 list of new shows I am going to check out.

5. Back to You

4. Reaper

3. Private Practice (Stop making fun of me)

2. Pushing Daisies

and my number one pick that I am so excited about I can’t contain myself is….

1. Bionic Woman

So tell me…which returning show are you most excited about? And more importantly, which new show are you most excited about?

Things to do on a rainy day.

rainyday.jpg

Well, all of the weather people are saying it is going to rain on Friday.  Personally I am excited!  I love the rain but more importantly I love rainy days because you end up doing stuff you don’t normally do…and in my opinion it’s never to early to prepare.  Here is a great list of things to do on Friday…that is if you don’t have to work or go to school.  What are some of your favorite things to do on a rainy day?

1. Make paper airplanes and fly them across the room.
2. Have your own film festival. Pick a theme and rent several action movies, or sci- fi movies, or movies with the same actor in them.
3. Go to a museum or an aquarium
4. Do crossword puzzles – even make your own puzzles!
5. Try sudoku puzzles, fun for the whole family.
6. Play Scrabble, Monopoly or Candyland or another board game.
7. Bake cookies and give some to your family or friends.
8. Tell family stories and take the time to learn about family history.
9. Call someone you care about for a talk.
10. Make tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
11. Make shadow puppets with your hands and a flashlight on the wall.
12. Curl up and read an entire book.
13. Make paper bag puppets with lunch bags.
14. Watch an entire season of your favorite TV show. (Hint: Friends)
15. Play video games.
16. Get pizza delivered for lunch and eat it picnic style on the floor.
17. Draw pictures to send to the grandparents and other relatives. Sit down and write actual letters to everyone.
18. Go to the library and have everyone get a book they like. Take turns reading out loud from your books reading to each other.
19. Watch the Discovery channel and learn about animals and nature.
20. Pray…A Lot!

Have a great rainy day!

I’m a sucker for fall

September 19, 2007 · 4 Comments

I tend to romanticize just about everything and fall is something that I will forever be smitten with. There is just something about it. Cooler temperatures, colored leaves, pumpkins, the beginning of school, all of it. For about two months we can relax as the non stop happenings of summer have ended, and the holidays are still just a distant thought. It a season that celebrates change. It is a time when there is slight chill in the breeze letting us know that winter is coming, while being a gentle reminder to relish the beauty around us.

autumn-harvest.jpgLeaves dance a long sidewalks, and pumpkins grace doorsteps. The smell of fresh baked pies fill the air as children climb trees. The days become shorter while the night invites us to gather together to drink cider and hot cocoa. Trees put on a brief fireworks display as they are set ablaze in colors of gold, red, and orange. We celebrate the harvest time…because it is good and we have been blessed.vermont-autumn-cliche.jpg

It is fall, and although people may scoff at me and say there is no autumn here…the images in my head and heart say otherwise… For there, I am getting ready to dive into a big pile of leaves…and no one can take that away from me.

I really am a sucker for the fall.

Is it football season yet?

August 2, 2007 · 6 Comments

Hockey season is over (congrats to the Ducks), baseball sucks to watch on tv, I’m never home to watch golf, I hate basketball, and I refuse to watch the giant left turn that is NASCAR…which leads me to cry out…

IS IT FOOTBALL SEASON YET?!

product-1654.gif

Only two months left until the gloriousness that happens on any given Sunday…Only two months until Saturdays are filled with college rivalries and traditions…Only two months until Monday Nights are once again filled with the joy and ruckus of over filled living rooms…two months…that’s it…

Already I am filled with anticipation and questions. Will my Niners do the impossible and actually bring back their dynasty? Will Matt Leinart actually do well this year? Will Daunte Culpepper and Nick Sabin transform the Dolphins into something more than average? Will Cincinnati complete the transformation from one of the crappiest teams to one of the best? Will the Saints continue to rise from the wreckage? Will the Colts do it again?

With summer in full swing all I can do is wait…but not for too much longer…just two agonizingly slow months and then comes the sweet release that is football season.

Until then…
